Infrastructure Generalist For Market Making Firm

Elite options market making firm is looking for the elusive sysadmin generalist – jack-of-all-trades, and master of several. If you don’t know how to debug packet traces or parse IP headers, if you aren’t the sort to look at kernel source code to debug issues, if dtrace and /proc are not second-nature to you, you will get run over. If you aren’t the sort to read the architecture whitepapers on the network gear to know what the building-block ASICs are in order to understand the fundamental limitations of the gear, if having Linux machines running off Windows Active Directory controllers for SSO and using Exchange as an email platform bugs you, this isn’t the shop for you.

There is no specific job role or description involved – we hire the best people and apply them to do what they are best at (and then some). That said: there is a strong need for an individual that can bring significant networking experience to the table, to play a significant role in our continued network build-out and to build a network monitoring infrastructure.

You would be working with like-minded generalists: self-motivated, self-reliant types who are frustrated when there is some technology they don’t understand and ripping it apart until they do… and a manager that is no different. It is a team – but it’s a team of individuals, working in coordination.
